Revenue Minister welcomes appointment to UN tax committee

Revenue Minister Peter Dunne has welcomed the appointment of Robin Oliver to the United Nations' Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.

Robin Oliver is a Deputy Commissioner of Inland Revenue and heads the department's Policy Advice Division, which, together with the Treasury, advises the government on tax policy. He is also Deputy Chair of the OECD's Committee on Fiscal Affairs.

"Robin Oliver's appointment to the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters is a well deserved honour for him," Mr Dunne said today.

"The committee is made up of 25 people, from developed and developing countries, appointed for their expertise, rather than as official representatives of their countries. Nevertheless, by extension, Robin Oliver's appointment is also an honour for New Zealand.

"The role of the committee, which meets once a year in Geneva for five days, is to review and update the UN model double tax convention. It also has a broad mandate to encourage international co-operation in tax matters, with special emphasis on the needs of developing countries and countries with economies in transition," Mr Dunne said.
