April tax bill reported back

The Finance and Expenditure Committee reported back to Parliament today on the Taxation (Annual Rates, Taxpayer Assessment and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, introduced in April.

The main amendments in the bill, as introduced, relate to research and development, unit trusts, interest deductibility and taxpayer assessment. Three further measures were added to the bill after introduction: changes relating to the pre-1999 application of GST to certain services contracted for outside New Zealand; transfers of overpaid tax; and removal of the six-month deadline for claiming donation and housekeeper-childcare rebates.

For the committee's recommendations see the bill as reported back at www.gp.co.nz/wooc/bills/taxationann/taxann.html [original link no longer available, now available at http://www.nzlii.org/nz/legis/hist_bill/trtaampb20011192765/ ].
