Child support bill introduced
The Child Support Amendment Bill, introduced into Parliament today, proposes a number of changes to child support thresholds, with effect from 1 April 2002:
- The minimum weekly child support payment will increase from $10 to $12.75.
- The investment income threshold for liable parents who are long-time hospital patients or prisoners will rise from $10 to $12.75 a week.
- The maximum annual income level for assessment of child support will rise from 2 to 2.5 times the yearly equivalent of the average ordinary-time weekly wage.
The bill also introduces minor remedial amendments relating to end-of-year assessments, effective from 1 April 2001.
