The Policy Advice Division of the Inland Revenue Department is seeking an experienced analyst for its Forecasting and Analysis Unit. This unit is responsible for providing contestable advice on forecasts of tax revenues and departmental social policy expenditures to the Government, as well as for monitoring and reporting on tax revenue flows, and for quantitative analysis of tax and social policy proposals.
The Role
The appointee will be responsible for:
- carrying out research relating to the development and enhancement of forecasting and policy analysis models;
- producing tax revenue and social policy expenditure forecasts;
- monitoring tax collections against forecast and explaining any differences; and
- evaluating fiscal implications of tax and social policy proposals.
The Skills
Applicants should have:
- a desire to work in tax and social policy;
- a sound knowledge of forecasting and modelling techniques;
- experience in using personal computers and networked databases in analytical work, and ideally some SAS programming experience;
- a high degree of initiative and self-motivation combined with excellent analytical and well-developed communication skills;
- the ability to work as part of a team.
A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as economics, mathematics, operations research or statistics, is highly desirable, but candidates with other qualifications who have recent experience in economic or social modelling or in financial analysis will be considered.
